Biblical Cosmology

One of the strongest bits of evidence for the supernatural divine authorship of the Bible is it's cosmology. Cosmology is the discipline that deals with the nature of the Universe as a whole.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmology) It is different from Astronomy in that Astronomy is a natural science that deals with the study of celestial objects . (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronomy)

The Bible makes a number of cosmological statements that are now known to be Scientifically true. However, when these statements were written, no human could have known them. In fact, the statements would have been ridiculous to humans of that time. If mere humans wrote the Bible they would not have included ideas that at the time they could not have known to be true.

1.The Earth is a Circle

Isaiah 40:22 (New King James Version) It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
Isaiah used a word that meant circle The Hebrew Chuwg: circle, circuit, compass. In this time, no one knew that the earth was a circle or sphere. So why then would Isaiah use this word? I would say because God instructed him to do so.

"It was the Lord who put it into my mind...I could feel His hand upon me...There is no question the inspiration was from the Holy Spirit because He comforted me with rays of marvelous illumination from the Holy Scriptures... No one should fear to undertake any task in the name of our Savior if it is just and if the intention is purely for His Holy Service. The gospel must be preached to so many lands in such a short time. This is what convinces me." Christopher Columbus (from his Diary, in reference to his discovery of "the New World').

2. The Earth Hangs From Nothing

Job 26:7 (New King James Version) He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.

At the time (1500 BC) it was believed that the Earth sat on a large animal or giant but, Job described the earth as hanging in space. How could Job know this? Answer God.

3.The Stars are Innumerable

Jeremiah 33:22 New King James Version (NKJV) As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.

Genesis 22:17 New King James Version (NKJV) blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.

On the surface these verses may not seem very significant. God is telling Abraham and the descendants of David that their descendants will be as uncountable as the stars in the sky and as the grains of sand on the sea shore. God is not saying that their offspring will equal their numbers, only that they will be so numerous, they'll be uncountable as the stars and grains of sand. What is so significant is the the visible stars in the sky are countable. Ancient astronomers knew their number. Astronomers from Egypt, Babylon, China, and other places had counted the visible stars. There are about 5,000 - 6,000 stars visible to the naked eye. http://creation.com/counting-the-stars

4. The Universe is Expanding

Take a second look at Isaiah 40:22:

It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. Both words "stretches and "spreads in the Hebrew tense/form indicate a continuing process. It was not until the 1930's that astronomers discovered that the universe is actually expanding. And it was not until the late 1990's that astronomers discovered that the universe was being actively stretched out by forces still unknown. How could a Hebrew prophet from around 750 BC know what no-one knew until the late 20Th century?

5. First Law of Thermodynamics

John 1:3 (New King James Version) All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Without God matter and energy cannot be created. The first Law of Thermodynamics states that matter and energy cannot be created. What the Apostle John is telling us is that only God can create, and nothing has been created in any other way. In addition the First Law of Thermodynamics states that matter and energy cannot be destroyed. Does this contradict the Bible? No, it actually verifies it.

Hebrews 1:3 (New King James Version) who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Colossians 1:17 (New King James Version) And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist

According to the Bible, Jesus Christ uphold and sustains all things. That means nothing can be destroyed. Scripture indicates And the Bible teaches the First Law of Thermodynamics long before it ever was discovered by science. Where did this Law of Physics come from? It could not have evolved because matter and energy are controlled by it. It had to of been created by God before Matter and energy existed.

6. The Second Law of Thermodynamics

Psalm 102:25-26 (New King James Version) Of old You laid the foundation of the earth,And the heavens are the work of Your hands. 26 They will perish, but You will endure;Yes, they will all grow old like a garment;Like a cloak You will change them,And they will be changed.

How could King David know that the universe was wearing out? The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that the universe is running down and wearing out.http://creation.com/the-second-law-of-thermodynamics-answers-to-critics

How is it possible that David understood this Law of Physics 3,000 years ago that was discovered by science only 160 or so years ago?

7. ex nihlio

Genesis 1:1 (New King James Version) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Hebrews 11:3 (New King James Version) By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

The First thing you can see from these verses is that the Universe is not eternal; it had a true beginning. This agrees with what science has discovered today. The Laws of Thermodynamics show that the universe is running down and cannot have existed for an infinite number of years because it would have reached a point of infinite entropy by now. Therefore we know the universe had a beginning. The second thing we see is that the universe did not create itself. We can see that in science with the Anthropic Principle which states; the Universe is especially suited for the well being of mankind. God who is life created Life. Third we see matter, that which is seen is not made from preexisting matter. The Bible teaches that the Universe was created from nothing. Science clearly teaches that the universe had an absolute beginning and before that could not have existed eternally. Was this merely a lucky guess by the writer of Hebrews?

The Bible is scientifically accurate. In the December 28th 1992 issue of Time (Time, December 28, 1992 New York: Time, Inc., 1992) there was an article on what science has revealed about God. The article showed there are a number of scientists, even atheists, that are now beginning to see the universe as having been designed. They see the universe from the subatomic level all the way up to the intergalactic level and they see design. Here is what Astrophysicist Robert Jastrow states: For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries. (Robert Jastrow, God and the Astronomers)

The Bible tells us many things regarding nature, science, and life. It has shown us, in times passed, what man is now only beginning to discover on his own through science. There is another important issue that the Bible teaches us and that is universally mankind has violated God's moral Law. the Bible makes it very clear that we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23, and that the wages of sin is death Romans 6:23. God has given us His moral standard, the standard He will use to Judge Us Hebrews 9:27. The question you NEED to ask yourself is will you be innocent or guilty on that day. If you honestly look at God's Ten Commandments and apply them to your life you will see that you are in big trouble. How many lies have you told? If it is one lie or a thousand and one lies, God will see you as a liar on Judgement day and all liars will have there part in the lake of fire Revelation 21:8. Have you ever taken something that did not belong to you? If you have God will see you as a thief. Regardless of the value of the thing or how long ago it was it stole it. No thief will inherit the Kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:10. Jesus said that if you look with lust you are committing adultery with that person already in your heart Matthew 5:27. No adulter will inherit God's Kingdom. How many times have you used God's name as a cuss word or to express excitement. Make no mistake God will hold no-one guiltless who takes His name in vain. God is Just and Holy and He will punish sin, and the place of punishment is a place called hell. BUT, God wishes that none shall perish and all come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9. God made a way for us to be made right with Him, by His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. 2000 years ago God sent His Son born of a virgin, which makes Him different than you and I. Jesus is fully God and fully man and sinless in thought word and deed. Again unlike you and I. Jesus voluntarily went to the cross to be crucified and become a ransom for us. the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Jesus Died was Buried and On the third day forever defeated death and sin and rose from the grave. Historical Fact by the way. If you repent of your sins (confess and forsake them) and put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and Him alone, you will be Born again. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”Acts 4:12. Read your Bible and obey what it says.

The Bible Stands AloneCompiled by Jordan and Justin Drake
In 1889 a schoolteacher told a ten-year-old boy, "You will never amount to very much." That boy was Albert Einstein. In 1954 a music manager told a young singer, "You ought to go back to driving a truck." That singer was Elvis Presley. In 1962 a record company told a group of singers, "We don’t like your sound. Groups with guitars are definitely on their way out." They said that to the Beatles. Man is prone to make mistakes. Those who reject the Bible should take the time to look at the evidence before they come to a verdict.
1. It is unique in its continuity. If just 10 people today were picked who were from the same place, born around the same time, spoke the same language, and made about the same amount of money, and were asked to write on just one controversial subject, they would have trouble agreeing with each other. But the Bible stands alone. It was written over a period of 1,600 years by more than 40 writers from all walks of life. Some were fishermen; some were politicians. Others were generals or kings, shepherds or historians. They were from three different continents, and wrote in three different languages. They wrote on hundreds of controversial subjects yet they wrote with agreement and harmony. They wrote in dungeons, in temples, on beaches, and on hillsides, during peacetime and during war. Yet their words sound like they came from the same source. So even though 10 people today couldn’t write on one controversial subject and agree, God picked 40 different people to write the Bible—and it stands the test of time.
2. It is unique in its circulation. The invention of the printing press in 1450 made it possible to print books in large quantities. The first book printed was the Bible. Since then, the Bible has been read by more people and printed more times than any other book in history. By 1930, over one billion Bibles had been distributed by Bible societies around the world. By 1977, Bible societies alone were printing over 200 million Bibles each year, and this doesn’t include the rest of the Bible publishing companies. No one who is interested in knowing the truth can ignore such an important book.
3. It is unique in its translation. The Bible has been translated into over 1,400 languages. No other book even comes close.
4. It is unique in its survival. In ancient times, books were copied by hand onto manuscripts which were made from parchment and would decay over time. Ancient books are available today only because someone made copies of the originals to preserve them. For example, the original writings of Julius Caesar are no longer around. We know what he wrote only by the copies we have. Only 10 copies still exist, and they were made 1,000 years after he died. Only 600 copies of Homer’s The Iliad exist, made 1,300 years after the originals were written. No other book has as many copies of the ancient manuscripts as the Bible. In fact, there are over 24,000 copies of New Testament manuscripts, some written within 35 years of the writer’s death.
5. It is unique in withstanding attack. No other book has been so attacked throughout history as the Bible. In A.D. 300 the Roman emperor Diocletian ordered every Bible burned because he thought that by destroying the Scriptures he could destroy Christianity. Anyone caught with a Bible would be executed. But just 25 years later, the Roman emperor Constantine ordered that 50 perfect copies of the Bible be made at government expense. The French philosopher Voltaire, a skeptic who destroyed the faith of many people, boasted that within 100 years of his death, the Bible would disappear from the face of the earth. Voltaire died in 1728, but the Bible lives on. The irony of history is that 50 years after his death, the Geneva Bible Society moved into his former house and used his printing presses to print thousands of Bibles. The Bible has also survived criticism. No book has been more attacked for its accuracy. And yet archeologists are proving every year that the Bible’s detailed descriptions of historic events are correct. See Matthew 4:4 and 1 Peter 1:25 footnotes.

Sometimes Things Go Wrong

Sometimes, not often when I feel lead to share the Gospel it ends up not going so well.

The other night my wife had a "Bunko" Party, for those of you who don't know bunko is a dice game that women like to play, and I stayed home to help with the kids and basically be available to my wife. I stayed away most of the night, I listened to a sermon on the Internet, Paul Washer He is Great, did a little reading blah, blah, blah. Towards the end of the night I went into the dining room where the women were playing and just stood there and watched. As things were closing up the subject of abortion came up, not by me, and I was asked to tell the ladies, by my wife, about partial birth abortion. So I did. Whenever you talk about a subject like that it will always end up going to religion and that is what happened. One of the ladies brought up the subject of the 10 Commandments God's Law. That is when it started to unravel. Another of the ladies felt that The 10 Commandments should not be in the public square, I asked her why. She felt that it would offend atheist's so I asked her If atheist's are offended by or against; Thou Shall Not Steal, Or Thou Shall not bear false witness, Or My favorite, Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery. I also made the point that in a Democracy, not that I really believe we live in one, It is majority rule and the majority wants the 10 Commandments in our public square. Well that was not what she wanted to hear. Since the subject of the Ten Commandments was on the table. I asked the question; "How do you'all think you've done keeping the Commandments"? and from there I proceeded to Bring the knowledge of sin by using The Law. Well needless to say it did not go over very well. Those women ran out of there like the house was on fire and my wife is still not speaking to me.

Maybe I went to far? Personally I think I didn't go far enough. The Bible Tells us to Preach the Gospel to every living Creature. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15. Some people might think you shouldn't offend people. My question is; "Why are they offended"? Is it because there conscience is bearing witness and they are feeling conviction under the Law. When the Gospel was presented to me I was offended and for a long time it bothered me, Why does this bother me I would ask. Finally I was honest with myself and realized I have sinned against God, The creator of this universe. I was a lying, Stealing, blasphemous, Murder, and adulterer at heart, and I am going to face God and He will Justly judge me and I would be Guilty. I was going to hell.

But God In His infinite Mercy and Grace, gave me, you, everyone a way to escape His wrath. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. God Demonstrates His Love toward us, In that, While We were yet sinners Christ Died for us. Jesus' first words in His Ministry were;“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” We need to turn from our sin and look towards Jesus, We need to trust in Him for Our salvation, not our good works, or kind words, or how much we give to charity. Trust In Jesus!! There is salvation in no other. No other name under heaven given among men will save you, or me.

Sometimes I admit I get overzealous, but you know what I'm not selling soap here, this has to do with a person's eternal destiny. Heaven, or Hell. If there was offence I am sorry, but I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for It is the Power Of God unto salvation for everyone who believes.
Just a side note, It is my house too and the women didn't have the cleanest mouths if you know what I mean. I heard OMG at least 10 times and a few other choice words. So I think I have a right to stand up for what I believe, especially in my own home.
I will say I am sorry to my wife I didn't mean to scare her friends away.

Until Next Time, My hope is in Christ.

Well Last night Chip, The Pastor at my church, and his son Ben and we met up with the guys from http://www.jude23.com/ and went to the Highlands and witnessed to people in the name of Jesus Christ. WOW!! what an experiece I am convinced that there really is Spiritual Warfare going on and when we share the Gospel we are engaging in that battle.

First time for everything

Hello My name is Chad and I am doing this to see what kind of reaction I can get and what kind of interaction I can drum up. I hope to be as prolific as some of the others I have read.
